JOHNYYSWIM & Playing For Change

JOHNNYSWIM

Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano are the husband-wife duo that front the band JOHNNYSWIM. Their music is influenced by Nashville’s melting pot of folk, pop and soul. Along with the influence from Music City’s diverse array of singer-songwriters, much of JOHNNYSWIM’s essence is built on the duo’s chemistry. For Sudano, making music with loved ones had been a way of life before she began performing with Ramirez in 2006. The daughter of late disco legend Donna Summer and acclaimed songwriter Bruce Sudano, she cut her teeth performing and touring with her mother’s band. Sharing the bill is world roots music collaboration Playing For Change, a “movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, based on the belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people.

Playing For Change

Sharing the bill is world roots music collaboration Playing For Change, a “movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, based on the belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people.” In 2002, PFC founders hit the streets of America and the world with a mobile recording studio and cameras, recording street musicians and sharing their “Songs Around the World” on the web. Songs Around the World inspired the Playing for Change band, uniting many of the best musicians from different countries and cultures, who speak the same language through music, spreading a message of love and hope to the world.

Craig Campbell and The Black Lillies

Craig Campbell

Craig Campbell is an American country music singer who has released two major albums that produced five singles on the Hot Country Songs chart. Campbell’s respect for his fans and live audiences is evident on his latest EP, “Outta My Head,” a five song set that solidifies Campbell’s standing as country music’s hippest neo-traditionalist, a niche he’d already begun to carve out with his critically-acclaimed, self-titled 2011 debut album. Prior to landing his record deal, Campbell spent time on the road playing keyboards in the bands of Tracy Byrd and Luke Bryan, gigs that inspired him to pursue his solo career.

The Black Lillies

The songs and sounds that would form the nexus of The Black Lillies were conceived over the course of a year, in the cab of front man Cruz Contreras’ stone delivery truck, on the highways of East Tennessee. Their music, often rustic and on the borders of other genre territory (rock, bluegrass, blues, folk) has the lyrical lull of what makes country well … country: heartbreak, death, liquor, and a dose of Southern charm and backwoods wrangle. It’s a perfect balance between tears and toe tappin’, a perfect way to kick off the Teton County Fair’s annual shindig!

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

New Orleans native Trombone Shorty began his career as a bandleader at the young age of six, toured internationally at age 12, and spent his teens playing with various brass bands throughout New Orleans and touring worldwide with Lenny Kravitz. He is currently the front man for his own ensemble Orleans Avenue, a funk/rock/jazz/hip-hop band. Trombone Shorty appeared in several episodes of HBO’s “Treme,” and has recently appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and “Conan.” In 2012, he performed at the White House in honor of Black History Month with music royalty such as B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck and Booker T. Jones. At this year’s Grammy Awards, he performed alongside Madonna, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Mary Lambert. In 2012, he received the President’s Medal from Tulane University in recognition of his charitable work with the Trombone Shorty Foundation. Be sure to check out Jackson’s local blend of funk and rock as Sneaky Pete & The Secret Weapons kick off the evening’s action.

Family of the Year - Live in Jackson Hole

Family of the Year – Live in Jackson Hole

It’s so perfect – for our final show of the summer, we’ve chosen two summer-drenched, fun-loving upbeat bands to get your feet moving and hands clapping! We’ve really enjoyed bringing you this free summer season of music! So this is it, music lovers – join us this Friday, August 23 for Family of the Year and Jeff Austin and Friends. Beginning at 5 pm, Family of the Year kicks things off with classic pop, sweet melodies and California beach sounds – this indie band is all about fun and sun! I am so reminded of the Beach Boys when listening to tracks off their latest album, Loma Vista. In fact the chorus of the EP St. Croix…”You bring the ocean, I’ll bring the motion, together we’ll make a love potion” is surely the most beachy call to action since Kokomo. Read More
