JacksonHoleLive Music Scholarship
The JacksonHoleLive Music Scholarship’s mission is to further the ambition of aspiring young musicians.
The$3000 cash scholarship winner for 2016 is Aspen Jacquet of Jackson, WY, and the runner-up $1000 winner is Gavin Speakman of Star Valley.
WINNER: Aspen Jacquet is a 17-year old guitarist and singer-songwriter from Wilson, WY. Aspen won the 2010 Women of Jackson Music Scholarship; she won 3rd, 2nd, 1st, and overall Grand Champion at the Teton County Fair Rita Case Memorial Talent Show 7 years in a row. She won the Cathedral Voices Sing Off two years in a row, was the First Place Winner of Environmental Health Trust Annual Safe Technology Art Contest, and was invited to sing her original songs at the Intertribal Winter Sports Summit and at TEDXJACKSON, both at the Center for the Arts. She plans to record her first EP this year and wants to pursue a career in music.
RUNNER-UP: Gavin Speakman is a 17-year old trombone player from Thayne, WY. The Star Valley High School student has many music accolades including participating in the Wyoming All-State Marching Band, Wyoming All-State Concert Band, Wyoming All-State Orchestra Brass section, Wyoming All-State Jazz Band, Carnegie Hall Honors Performance Series, University of Montana High School Honor Ensembles, and All-Northwest Band. Gavin is a Jackson Hole Community Band member and has received five Varsity Letters in music. Gavin wants to play professionally in a major symphony orchestra.
The 2015-16 Donors
JacksonHoleLive seeded the fund with $500 and asked for $500 matches from members of the community. Thanks to Chip Marvin, Scott Anderson, The Boathouse Foundation, Greg Miles & Melinda Binks, Jeff & Amy Golightly, Rachel Ravitz and an anonymous donor, we will be offering two cash awards this year: $3,000 to a winner and $1,000 to a runner-up
We have chosen a five-member committee to review the applications and choose winners. Committee members include Steve Poole (Chair), Sue Bybee, Pete Closson, Mac Munro and Michelle McCormick.
Applicants must be:
- An aspiring musician
- Within the following age range: incoming freshman up to 21 years old.
- A resident of Jackson Hole, Star Valley or Teton Valley, ID
